THE PROJECT

More about the project

The 2G_PROVEIL project is developing a new generation of smart reusable masks, based on electret-free nanofibers and ergonomic design. Our goal is to create reusable FFP2 and FFP3 masks that are not only safer and more comfortable, but also smarter and more sustainable than traditional masks.

We address urgent public health needs by providing:

  • Extended shelf life and reusability.
  • Superior filtration efficiency and breathability.
  • Safe materials with low contaminant release.
  • Smart sensor integration for fit validation.

These advanced filtering half masks will support improved pandemic preparedness and offer a high-quality alternative to traditional disposable face masks with filters that generate environmental waste. Our reusable FFP2 masks and FFP3 reusable masks are designed to compete with premium solutions like while offering superior smart technology.

Funded by the European Union under the EU4Health Programme (EU4H), 2G_PROVEIL involves top Spanish institutions in biomedical research, technology development, and healthcare validation. Expected project completion: 2029.

The new masks will incorporate electret-free nanofiber filters with broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties (virucidal, bactericidal, and fungicidal) and mechanical filtration performance capable of reaching FFP3 standards. This design mitigates the degradation of filtration performance caused by humidity and enables repeated disinfection using alcohol–water sprays, significantly extending shelf-life and reusability.
